Rende Progress Capital is pleased to share milestones and achievements of both Dr. Lisa Cook, a Rende Progress Capital Board Member and Elizabeth Welch of Welch Law and Rende Progress Capital Employment Law Counsel.
Both remarkable women have recently achieved professional milestones for the state of Michigan, the United States, economic equity, justice and gender inclusion.
Dr. Lisa Cook named to the Biden-Harris Transition Team: Dr. Lisa Cook has been named to the Biden-Harris Transition Team providing President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-Elect Kamala Harris counsel, expertise and policy advice on economic policy. Dr. Lisa Cook is a recognized world expert in economics, economic development and international markets.
Dr. Cook is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and in International Relations (James Madison College) at Michigan State University. A Marshall Scholar from Spelman College, B.A. from Oxford University in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley---Dr. Cook is a Senior Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis’ Opportunity & Inclusive Growth Institute. Dr. Cook has held positions or conducted postdoctoral research at the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Federal Reserve Banks of New York and Philadelphia, the World Bank, the Brookings Institution, the Hoover Institution (Stanford University), Salomon Brothers (now Citigroup), and C&S Bank (now Bank of America).

Elizabeth Welch wins election to the Michigan Supreme Court: Elizabeth Welch won her hard-fought election to the Michigan State Supreme Court. As an incoming Supreme Court Justice, Ms. Welch will bring her rich experience to the Michigan State Supreme Court---- Michigan's court of last resort, consisting of seven justices. Each year, the Supreme Court receives over 2,000 applications for leave to appeal from litigants primarily seeking review of decisions by the Michigan Court of Appeals.
After working for prestigious law firms, Ms. Welch established Welch Law focused on the area of employment law. Her work includes assisting small- to mid-size companies and nonprofit organizations with issues related to employment, end-of-employment, wage and hour compliance, employee leave (including coordinated leave obligations under the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act), as well as all aspects of employment law on the local, state and federal levels. She has extensive experience practicing with the the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, and the state/federal Departments of Labor.
Ms. Welch received her law degree from Ohio State University, where she served as a top editor for the Law Journal and graduated from Penn State University with a history/business degree with honors and magna cum laude in 1992.
